Today, we had a patient that broke a front tooth close to the gum line. She was very concerned as to how long it would be before we could get her a new tooth and she could smile again. Within minutes we were able to painlessly use our dental laser to expose healthy tooth structure. A post was placed and a temporary crown was made. With the help of the dental laser we were able to have her smiling with a new tooth. On her next visit, the permanent dental crown will be delivered to our very grateful and happy patient.
The laser saved the patient from periodontal therapy and saved weeks of healing time. The laser was quick and efficient and the patient had no discomfort during and after the procedure. The most amazing advantage of the laser is that the patient had almost no bleeding as it did its job. For cosmetic dentistry, it is a great tool, as gum tissue immediately improves and healing time is lessened with reduced swelling.
To simply describe how it works, our laser uses an energized form of light that is delivered at the end of a clear fiber optic cord. As I use it, I watch excessive gum tissue just disappear. It’s not as fast as I would envision from James Bond movies, but in a few short minutes, the laser perfectly does its job. We use it to take away excess tissue, remove periodontal pockets and muscle pulls, and perform painless biopsies. Our patients love the results that they quickly notice.
Now that you are enlightened as to the workings of our laser, ask your dentist if the office has one to make your dentistry easier for you.
