I just called a patient who told me that she was ecstatic about the implant bridge that we placed today. On Monday, she flew to Palm Beach from Connecticut for us to start working on her crowns. On Tuesday, we took impressions after our periodontist, Dr. Hauer, uncovered the implants that he had placed four months ago. Today (Friday), we cemented her new crowns, which redefined her smile as youthful and vibrant. Thanks to the expertise and expediency of our dental lab, the bridge was completed so our appreciative patient could fly from Florida back home this weekend.
We have been routinely performing this kind of dentistry for years. Every patient is carefully evaluated as to how expeditiously we can replace a missing or extracted tooth with implants. If we need to extract a tooth that cannot be saved, we prefer to replace the tooth with a dental implants that visit. A temporary dental crown is typically inserted at the time of the implant being placed. Then, we wait three to four months for the implants to “integrate” into the bone. Next, the implants are exposed, and, in that same visit, impressions are taken to fabricate and finish our dental crowns. In most cases, within four to five months of placing implants our patients are completed with their new permanent teeth. We are accommodating to our patients’ busy schedules and value their time.
We primarily use Nobel implants, which are the most widely used dental implants in the world. Nobel is a unique company as they warranty their work. If a patient would ever have a problem with an implant, their guarantee is to replace their implant and even the crown or bridge on the implant. It is a fabulous company to work with, as Nobel’s products are superb and have a long successful record of service.
To achieve this high satisfaction rate with the way implant crowns look and feel, it is important for us to have a porcelain oven to custom color and glaze crowns or bridges that are placed. Many patients have slight nuances in the shading or coloring of their teeth. We can custom shade crowns in less than 15 minutes to have them match our patients’ natural teeth or match other crowns that may be present. These custom shades do not wear away and last for the life of the crowns as they are fused to the crowns at very high temperatures. We also may encourage our patients to try their crowns for a few days to be sure the color and shape are perfect.
Our patient today carefully scrutinized her new crowns, which returned from the lab perfectly matching her other teeth. We took a few x-rays to verify that the fit was perfect, and the patient confirmed that the match was great. Tomorrow, I will call her again just to verify that all is perfect. On Sunday she will be leaving Florida for a few months to show her new smile to the rest of her admiring friends and family.
As always, please let me know if there are questions that you would like me to address in my blog.
