What are Veneers?

Also referred to as Porcelain veneers, Cosmetic dental veneers, or Lumineers®

In the top picture, the teeth are tilted, overlapping, and various colors. After a smile makeover using porcelain veneers, the teeth are natural looking, properly shaped, and the perfect color.

Most people are unfortunately not born with the perfect smile seen in magazines and advertisements.  Luckily though, an experienced and talented cosmetic dentist can often use veneers to truly transform a smile into a masterpiece.

Veneers are extremely thin pieces of tooth colored material that are bonded onto the front side of teeth. Each veneer is custom made to the tooth to create the perfect shape, color, and contour. Veneers are able to treat many dental problems, such as severe staining, chipped teeth, and uneven teeth. (Learn more in our article: Are veneers for you?)

With advancements in dental materials and technologies, veneers are both beautiful and durable.  The strength of the bond between the veneer and the tooth has drastically increased in the past decade, making veneers much stronger and more resistant to chipping.  Also, the material used for veneers has become incredibly more natural looking and aesthetic.

Many dentists place veneers in their dental offices.  Choosing your cosmetic dentist might be the most important decision you make when it comes to your veneers.  You should look for an attentive cosmetic dentist with a long track record of experience and success.  The dental office should be professional, polite and courteous.  Feeling relaxed and comfortable is important, so you can voice your goals of the dental care and any concerns.

Below, you will see numerous articles that we wrote about veneers. In our office, veneers are extremely common, so we answered many of our frequently asked questions.  We talk about the different types, the average cost, the pros, the cons, where to go for veneers, and much more.  We hope you enjoy the articles, and please let us know if there are any other topics we should cover.

Also, please feel free to check out Dr. Lissauer’s blog post about how to fix crooked, discolored and chipped teeth with porcelain veneers.
