Your mouth and your gums often change over time. Thus, a denture or partial denture that fit perfectly for years may now be loose. For a loose denture or partial denture, various options exist:
Reline: A reline is when a material is placed on the inside of the denture or partial denture in order to better adapt to your mouth.
New denture or partial denture: Sometimes, your denture or partial denture unfortunately does not fit anymore, and a new one may be the best option.
Implant denture or partial denture: In many situations, dental implants can drastically improve how your denture or partial denture fits. An implant is a titanium screw that goes into your jawbone. Your denture or partial denture can be adapted to snap into the top of an implant, holding it securely in place while you speak and chew. (Learn more about implant dentures.)
If your denture or partial denture is loose, you should see your dentist immediately to discuss various options. You should not just resort to using denture adhesive.
How implants have changed the way I make dentures:
Over twenty-five years ago, my wife and I moved to south Florida from Boston, where I attended and taught at Tufts Dental School. My office has been located in the Boynton Beach and Delray Beach area since moving to Palm Beach County. In my practice, implant dentures have become a common dental procedure. New patients will present to our office with an ill-fitting denture or partial denture. We are often able to use dental implants to drastically improve its comfort and fit. The implants serve as an anchor and hold the denture in place while chewing and speaking. Quite honestly, our patients typically cannot understand how they used to cope with their old denture before implants. If you have an uncomfortable denture or you are considering a new denture, partial denture or implant denture, we would gladly provide a complimentary evaluation:
